What Is Apathy and Why Do You Feel So Empty Inside?

When you ignore your emotions, they grow in the dark

The feeling of emptiness

Emptiness is a lack of any feeling at all. It can happen when you’re stressed, anxious, or depressed. Or it can happen when you are in a state of shock and don’t allow yourself to feel anything.

You might also feel emptiness when cutting yourself off from your emotions because you don’t deserve to feel them. This is called emotional numbing. It’s a way of trying to protect yourself from pain.

The cause of apathy

Apathy is not an emotion. It’s a lack of emotion. When you ignore your feelings, they stop growing. and, like a seed left in the dark, they die. You might not know it, but inside you are many emotions that are all waiting to be heard, accepted, and loved. They want you to acknowledge them and then give them a chance to express themselves. They are love and joy, guilt and shame. You must listen to your emotions and take them seriously.

How to turn your apathy into action

Think about the last time you felt sad. You might have been crying or desperately wanted a friend to hug you. But did you allow yourself to feel sad? Instead, you might have immediately tried to cheer yourself up or told yourself that you shouldn’t feel that way.

  • What if you allowed yourself to feel sad instead of trying to turn off your emotions?
  • What if you said to yourself, “It’s okay to feel sad right now”?

Your emotions are not bad or negative. Guilt, shame, sadness, and fear are normal human emotions. What is not normal is denying yourself the right to feel them. Let them flow freely.

You might not know it, but every time you deny yourself a feeling, you’re not only blocking yourself from feeling it now but also storing it inside you.

This is how you create a volcano inside you that is ready to explode at any time.

A few words about guilt and shame

  • Do you feel guilty about something that happened in the past?
  • Are you ashamed of something you did?

Guilt and shame are very painful emotions, but they are also one of the most important emotions.

  • Showing yourself that you care about others and your life.
  • Letting you know that you hurt somebody you love or yourself.
  • Urging you to make a change, repair the damage you’ve done, or stop a behavior.

Guilt and shame are extremely important emotions. They are not signs of weakness; they are signs of strength and empathy.

Apathy is a lack of interest in things that usually interest you. When you ignore your emotions, they grow in the dark and die. They are important because they show you who you are and what you feel. It’s okay to feel sad, guilty, and shameful. Let them go, and you will be free from the prison of apathy once and for all.
