After a storm, it's time to assess the damage done to your property—and that includes your roof. High winds can loosen or even remove shingles, especially along the roof edges, where roof's slope or face meets the fascia or soffit. Lifted or missing shingles can lead to leaks (and eventually rot) if moisture gets underneath and affects the roof deck below.
Exactly how hot does a roof get in the summer? According to the US Department of Energy, traditional darker asphalt shingle roofs can get up to 150°F on a sunny summer day. And prolonged exposure to high heat like this can damage your roof.
While moss can sometimes give a roof an appealingly aged, old-world look, unfortunately it can also have a severe impact on its durability if left untreated. If you notice any of these tiny, fast-growing plants taking up residence on top of your home, it's best to start the roof moss removal process sooner rather than later. The longer it's left, the harder it is to remove—and the greater the damage to your roof.
