30-day Startup Ideation Challenge: Day #1
For the next month, I’m going to be posting a new startup idea everyday. These ideas aren’t supposed to be final or even good. What’s most likely is that within a month of testing the idea, the idea would have completely pivoted, but this is a starting point.
Idea: Cloud-based F&B service that cooks, and delivers healthy food to individuals for less than $7 a meal. Reducing the menu to just three items (that change daily) allows economies of scale with respect to raw material sourcing, food production, and distribution.
Problem: Individuals in Australia cannot afford to have healthy food while working from home
Insight: Not sure yet…
Validation method: Create a mobile landing page (inspired by Grain in Singapore) that you promote with Instagram ads (inspired by Deliveroo in Australia). Make sure you only target your suburb. The instagram ads and mobile landing page could use text along the lines of: “Healthy bites for your budget. $10 with free delivery!” Once you get enough clicks and email signups then spend the morning cooking, and get delivering to your suburb.
Notes: Using data analytics would help you rotate the menu. You could eventually forecast lettuce, or rice futures, and buy the healthiest, tastiest, and cheapest raw ingredients. You would need to make sure you have a creative head chef who can draw up a great recipe everyday. Bulk cooking in warehouses to reduce costs. Drivers would be in insulated mini-vans carrying all three SKUs, and would aim to hit 10 to 15 deliveries per hour. You could also consider turning this into a subscription service.
Why am I doing this? I’m an innovation consultant who helps businesses build new products, and ventures. And I want people to see how easy it is to build, and validate an initial business idea. Hopefully inspiring them to start their own business.
Am I worried that people will take the ideas? I hope they do. These ideas will hopefully make the world a better place. Just remember, “Ideas are cheap. Execution is everything”
