There has to be something right? Why not just lay inside all day and do nothing until you die? Or why not just end your life now if there’s nothing driving you? You didn’t choose to be here as the person you are and you’re the only one exactly like you. Weird to think about. So what’s the point, why continue? You’d have to really think about it to realize what it is because there’s obviously something. Write down some possibilities. You could be doing it for somebody you care about, somebody who enjoys your company, somebody who cares about you. Family, Friend, Significant other. Ideally some sort of Intrinsic motivation is driving you as well. Health, helping others because it makes you feel good, your relationship with God. I can confidently say I’m one of the hardest workers I know and I still haven’t fully figured it out. I have no shame in saying that. There’s something that keeps me going everyday. I know first off I care a lot about how people think of me. I think that should matter to everybody for sure but you can’t obsess over it. That’s probably my biggest issue. But I push myself to my limits whenever I’m able and I’ll out work anybody just so other people see me as that person. It’s an issue, but a good one to have. On top of this I care about my health. Im always moving, training, taking care of my nutrition and so on. This is more personal to me. I like to impress myself and improve as much as I can. I also want to be the guy who can play with his grandkids when he’s 100 years old right? So there’s that. Family, health, extrinsic motivation like impressing others. That’s a lot. But even that doesn’t satisfy me fully. You have to think no matter your personal spiritual beliefs, there’s something else going on. That’s not that crazy to say is it? Doesn’t it just seem like you have to do the right thing and you have to do it well? Otherwise you feel guilty. There’s a reason everything matters and you may not know what it is until it’s all over. So I’d suggest you search around spiritually. Maybe that’s the part you’ve already found, maybe you haven’t started looking. This is an experiment. I’ve put all my thoughts on this page regarding “the drive”. What really pushes you. Why do I put so much effort into everything I do? Why should you? It’s clear you should but why exactly? There’s no doubt you’d be better off but you have to find out who and what you’re doing it for. I’m a young adult who hasn’t fully figured it out. I’m sharing my thoughts with you and I hope we can discuss and talk about this. Join the project, let’s EAT
